We are a friendly, active club with lots to offer. The club itself is sited next to the ruins of Ashby Castle and has pleasant views from the clubhouse balcony across the Bath Grounds and fields beyond. We have 7 floodlit AstroTurf courts, a modern clubhouse, including a well- used bar and spectating area.
However the strength of the club is its membership which is large and wide ranging in age, ability and background. We offer a warm welcome to anyone who is keen to play tennis and become part of the club. Members can choose to attend club nights held on Tuesdays and Fridays starting at 6pm.
The bar is open Friday evenings from 8pm and we have a large number of formal and informal social occasions. An annual dinner dance, summer party, quiz night, barbeque and Christmas disco. The pantomimes written, directed and performed by members of the club were outstanding and really showed the wealth of talent within the club and the ability of members to have a go!
There are a large number of senior teams playing competitive tennis, some of a very high standard. Throughout the year there are a variety of tournaments held at the club, the most popular being the club tournament held the first 2 weeks in September to which only club members may participate. This is a lovely social occasion where everyone gets the opportunity to meet up and play against one another in a formal tournament, usually in the warm autumn sunshine. Earlier in the season, at the beginning of July, the Annual Town Tournament takes place and this is open to anyone. The cash prizes attract a high standard of players from other clubs around the region and nationally.
Our resident Club coach Jonathan Lawton organises the junior section - which continues to be very popular and is rapidly expanding. Coaching is on offer for juniors week days and on Saturdays. They also have a very active social programme and compete at all levels, even in some cases reaching as far as Wimbledon.
Our club relies heavily upon a team of hardworking and dedicated individuals, elected by members onto the committee. The committee meet once a month in the clubhouse and work tirelessly towards providing the very best. They are all volunteers and give of their time freely which is commendable and shows the strength of commitment to the club. We are also fortunate to be benefitting from our close partnership with our sponsors NFU Mutual and we are grateful for their continued support.
We welcome visits to our club. If you are interested in joining either contact Jonathan Lawton, the club coach or call down Tuesdays or Fridays after 6pm. We will be pleased to show you what we have on offer which we believe to be the best tennis club in North West Leicestershire.
